About us and our programme
Our kindergarten is in the new community hub in Johnsonville, adjacent to the library. We are regular library visitors, attending story times and Te Reo times. We offer full day places to children over two and we open for 49 weeks of the year.
We are a warm and welcoming team, and we value partnerships with families. We encourage you to spend time talking to teachers, and to develop a sense of belonging at Waitohi Kindergarten.
We value the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa, the Treaty of Waitangi, te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.
Our families come from different ethnic and religious backgrounds and speak many languages. We acknowledge the different cultures and celebrate many festivals, coming together to share food.
We often walk in our community, visiting the fire station, police station and other facilities. We liaise with local schools and support children to transition to school successfully.
Our bicultural curriculum Te Whāriki helps children grow as competent and confident learners.
We see children as individuals who contribute their strengths and interests to our programme. We provide choices for children, empowering them to become independent thinkers. We encourage respect and responsibility for the natural world. We nurture the mana of the child, support social competency and make learning fun.
